My Priorities
For building a better Charlotte
Smart Housing Policies
Every day, approximately 117 new people move to Charlotte. We need to balance their need for housing with the interests and values of the current residents. It’s possible to achieve both. We can be a growing, vibrant community that provides housing for newcomers, including our children who want to come back to the city of their childhoods or our parents who wish to retire close to us, without diminishing the value of most families’ largest asset. With thoughtful, creative, and community-focused attention, we can maintain property values while providing a range of attainable options across our city to safely, sustainably, and efficiently house those who want to make Charlotte their home, especially our essential workers who deserve to live in the community they serve.
Transportation That Works For Everyone
Transportation is more than just getting from one place to another. It provides the freedom to live where you want, knowing you can easily reach the places you need to go. Safe, reliable, and effective transportation can help people get and keep jobs, ensuring they can arrive on time for work and travel home safely afterward. It is also essential for healthcare, enabling people to attend necessary medical appointments. Additionally, transportation can make a difference in accessing healthy foods at a market versus the limited selection at a small convenience store. In short, transportation is vital to the success of our city's residents.

Charlotte feels congested. We've all experienced increased rush hour tensions as post-COVID travel times have shifted, making navigating our streets difficult. This is further complicated by rising gas prices and the challenge of finding housing near our jobs and schools. Our city deserves reliable, efficient, and consistently safe transportation options, whether they are buses, trains, or a combination of both. These options need to work for everyone and operate in a way that truly reduces the strain on our congested corridors.
Keeping Our Communities Safe
Public safety is crucial for any community. It ensures that residents can live, work, and raise their families in a secure environment. By fostering collaboration between community members and federal, state, and county leadership, we can create a safe and clean home for everyone. The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) plays a vital role in maintaining this safety, but it requires the support and cooperation of the entire community. We need a diligent, professional, and well-trained police force. We need funding for mental health services to address both community needs and the trauma police officers experience on the job. Together, we can build a community where everyone feels protected and valued.
Putting Sustainability At The Forefront
The future is coming. And if it is to be the future we want for our families, it needs to be responsive to the very real changes in our environment. Our transportation, housing, and business development needs to be attentive to the realities of climate, economy, and political dynamics to position Charlotte for the future.
Sustainability is not just about preserving the environment; it's about creating a community that can thrive for generations to come. By integrating sustainable practices into our daily lives, we can reduce our carbon footprint, conserve resources, and promote a healthier lifestyle. This includes renewable energy sources, waste reduction, and support for local businesses that prioritize eco-friendly practices. We need tree canopies and smart, environmentally conscious transportation solutions that work for all our busiest corridors. A sustainable community is one where everyone works together to protect and enhance the natural world, ensuring that future generations can enjoy an enhanced quality of life.
Make Charlotte a Business Location of Choice
Charlotte is the economic engine of North Carolina. We are the 14th largest city with the 6th largest airport in the country. I will work to achieve strategic outcomes for Charlotte today that will safeguard the prosperity and capital of the Queen City for future generations. Small businesses deserve an abundant business environment that is less "no and slow" and more "yes and now." We need practical, competent Democrats to advocate effectively for Charlotte’s interests.
