Mom. Attorney.
Community Leader.

Descended from a long line of steelworkers, farmers, teachers, and nurses, I learned the value of hard work and public service at a young age. First in my family to graduate college, I went on to earn a law degree with honors at UNC Chapel Hill.  Practicing law in Charlotte since 1994, I have worked with individuals, Fortune 100 businesses, foreign and domestic regulators, and government entities across a host of complex issues. In addition, I assist my husband, a minority small business owner focused on the needs of South Charlotte. Through all of this, I have gained the negotiation, litigation, and practical business experience to serve Charlotte well on the City Council.

My three sons are products of the CMS public school system. From Olde Providence Elementary to Randolph Middle School and Myers Park High School, they are now all graduates of UNC Chapel Hill. I want to build a Charlotte where they can come back to and start their own families.

Giving Back To My Community

In addition to my legal career, I serve non-profits in uplifting marginalized voices in our community by:

  • Providing due process to students facing expulsion and long-term suspension through the Council for Children’s Rights.

  • Chairing non-profit boards of RAIN and the Havens.

  • Organizing and serving on a non-profit foundation to provide a new accessible playground at my local elementary school.

I have lived my democratic values by working polls, curing ballots, working GOTV sites as well as by advocating for causes I believe in through Moms Demand Action, Planned Parenthood, Rotary Youth Exchange, Lillian’s List Action Fund, and other groups seeking a better future for our families. I believe in service above self.

Making Charlotte My Home

When I moved to Charlotte over 30 years ago, I didn’t know a soul, but filled with the excitement of a fulfilling job, I knew this was a city where I could thrive. Since then I’ve carved a beautiful life story in South Charlotte. From the cul-de-sac in Reacroft where I bought my first home, to the house in Stallworth where I raised my sons, and now to the smaller, empty nest in Montibello Crossing, Charlotte gave me space and opportunity to craft my own story. I will work to ensure all families have a host of opportunities to make Charlotte their home.

I want to be your voice on the city council and be the bridge
between our community and the resources we need most. No good policy is developed behind closed doors. No plan should proceed without citizen input. Throughout my career, I have found solutions to complex problems by bringing together stakeholders and community leaders. When a problem arises, I assess available resources to find solutions. Connecting citizens with the resources they need will be a top priority. As a Queen City citizen, you should know what resources your taxes pay for. As your city council member, I will connect residents with resources to improve their lives.
